1. What is a School Based Apprenticeship/ Traineeship?

A school-based apprenticeship/traineeship provides students in Years 10-12 with the opportunity to commence training towards a qualification or skill while completing their secondary studies. A school-based apprentice/trainee must undertake a minimum of 48 days of paid work per year. The general structure of these programs is three days of school combined with two days of training either at the workplace or at College, but this can vary. At the completion of Year 12, the school-based apprentice/trainee will make the transition to a full or part-time apprenticeship/traineeship. All of the training and qualifications completed at school will be credited towards the new apprenticeship/traineeship, significantly reducing the time needed to gain trade qualification. School-based apprenticeships/traineeships are a great way to develop skills and gain a qualification while still at school as well as increasing your readiness for the work force and your potential as an employee.
